Interview with Haru Ichiban

Published 2020-05-27.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Playing videogames. Studying English and Japanese. Cooking. Meditating. Browsing the net. Investigating the paranormal. Making crafts. Drawing. Painting. Decluttering. Sewing. Daydreaming.
...I didn't realize they were so many activities.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I go in a mindless daze and then click on whatever calls my attention.
What, you expected me to be clever 100% of the time?
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Mmm... nope.
I do remember my first published story: I was 11 and it was in the school magazine. It was about a dove that would visit the kids at school.
What is your writing process?
It all begins with an idea of what I want to write (eg: I want a romance with this hot guy!)
And from then, I just go on, adding stuff as I walk the walk.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Ummm... I learned to read at age 3, so no.
How do you approach cover design?
I make them myself!
I usually have a couple of ideas about what I want, and choose the most appealing one.
For the first Forbidden book, I had that cover in mind from the very beginning! I always knew I wanted it!
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Only five? Noooooooooooo... I'd have to give it a thought to rank only five as the top! No!
What do you read for pleasure?
All I read is for pleasure in a way or the other... Except the news and the information I need for stuff in my career.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
None...
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Come back in three years and I'll be happy to reply. At this moment I'm too green.
Describe your desk
Better not.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
In Hell. I know what Hell is about, so I can depict it clearly in my writing.
When did you first start writing?
I've been writing since I remember...
What's the story behind your latest book?
That would be Forbidden: Evil Days at this point.
Uh, the "I love her. So what?" is something I did witness on a screen and it broke my heart. I wondered how would the girl feel with something like that.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Freedom. It's what I live for.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
No reply yet...
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To create worlds and situations just the way I want them! Adding excitement to this gray, stupid, boring, trivial, inane existence and this drab world!
What are you working on next?
The fourth Forbidden book: Forbidden: Newlife Days.
Who are your favorite authors?
Me. Nobody else writes exactly what I like.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The noises in my neighborhood.
