Interview with I. Elizabeth

Published 2014-09-01.
What do you think when parents tell you that they like to read your books themselves?
I'm thrilled. I love it when parents read my books for themselves and of course I'm thrilled when they like to read my books with their children. Reading brings families closer together. I've always read books with my children and we find out so much more about each other when we are laughing and reading together.
What do you read for pleasure?
Reading is relaxing. I read a lot of different genres.
What made you decide to write horror novels for middle grade readers?
The kids that I work with love to read horrors. They get very excited and love to be entertained.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A dastardly villain and an invincible girl. The villain wants to destroy the girl's family and the girl is not going to have it. She decides to fight hard; losing is nowhere in her vocab and it is nowhere in the villain's. So they have the fight of all fights.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love it. It thrills me over and over again.
What do your fans mean to you?
They make it happen.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I'm always thinking of what I will write.
What is your writing process?
Just actually getting it out of my mind and onto the computer screen.
How do you come up with the villains in your horror stories?
Villains are like any other characters. They have to be multidimensional and full of surprises. And completely unpredictable.
What do you want your readers to take from your work?
I want them to be satisfied and entertained.
Do you have a favorite book that you have written?
I love them all.
