Interview with Alexia Lockhart

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend time creating images, Word arts, music videos. I spend a lot of time with my partner and my children. And have a small group of friends I trust.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was at university. I wrote a romantic short story, a girl living in a secluded cabin on a beach. I then went on to write a novel based on my life called forever autumn. It was not good enough for anyone to read but was good therapy. I have written a lot of short stories over the years and some poetry. I haven't written anything for quite a few years till my recent novel wildflower - Becoming His. This will be my first real novel. A piece I am very proud of
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Robert westall, the kingdom by the sea. As his books are set in real places in real situations it is easy to visualise and to live the story. Being able to visit the places rhe character visited. To be able to understand their emotions. As an author he made stories come alive. He inspired me to do the same.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I randomly search. Depending what mood I am in. I love a hood romance along with good erotic fiction but there has to be a good backstory. I'm a hopeless romantic. Sometimes though I'm in the mood for adventure. I find the cover catches my eye. And if I'm not captured in the first 3 chapters I give up.
Who is Imogen-kelsie
Imogen is the main character in the wildflower series. A young girl living in the seaside town of Scarborough. Imogen loves to ride her bike and surf. She is a dancer studying at the local university. The series follows her life. Based in the year 2010, Imogen looks back over her life in a bid for self discovery, and looks forward to the future. In wildflower becoming his we are introduced to Marcus, and imogens life takes a whole new path.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It had been written as a fiction, though has many truths and personal fantasies entwined within it. The main character is based on me. A lot of me shines through. So reading it is like reaching deep into my soul. The book was created as a Christmas present. I created a journal for myself and my partner. For us to explore our favourite parts about our relationship. What our hopes and dreams were. What we'd wished we'd done. Our secret alter egos. And our fantasies. He doesn't know it yet but all of this was used to create our characters and stories. I'm hoping once he's read it, for it then to be available on here and then also be able to develop the characters more. It would be nice to get a lot more of Marcus shining through.
What are you working on next?
Next I will work on some more in the series. Maybe go back so people can learn alot more about imogen before she met Marcus. There is so much to her character. I would also like to explore Marcus a bit more.
What is your writing process?
I like to entwine fiction and reality. The story and the characters have to come alive. I have to see and visualise the places, I have to get to know the characters. I then write bits about them. I spend alot of time getting to know the characters before setting out a basic journey for them which I then work on. Writing individual sections then piecing them together to create a finnished journey.
How do you approach cover design?
As I created images before writing my first novel creating pictures is what I do best. I like something elegant and simple. With wildflower our main character imogen is a biker chick, but very shy. Unconfident. Hiding behind her bike and her leathers. Throughout the story our male character refers to her as a wildlfower. The cover had to encompass both her as a biker yet showing her shyness while also showing wildflowers.
What do you read for pleasure?
Romantic fiction, erotic fiction
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My phone! Though would love a kindle or some sort of ereader but with my phone I always gave it I'm my hand if I get a few spare moments
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I haven't tried yet. I am hoping to use Twitter and some other social media platforms. Maybe getting the characters to come more alive will encourage people to read their stories
Describe your desk
A mess! My laptop and tonnes of pieces of paper. Though most of my notes are stored in word and on Evernote vso if I'm out and something pops into my mind I can quickly note it down via my phone and access it later.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Having someone enjoy the story.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are the reason I write. I would love more input from people ti help develop the characters
