Interview with Jake Bannerman

Published 2023-04-24.
Describe your desk
I wrote The Harvest, my first book, at a bar called McFinns on the southside of Oklahoma City. Nobody ever hung out in the back room of the bar, so I had no distractions, and I wrote my second book at another Southside bar called The Ally. Currently, my desk is my couch, lol
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Seaside Heights, NJ; not sure how it affected my writing other than my father was catholic and my mom was a Baptist, so I went to both, so I am Batholic, religion or rather, the misdeeds of faith are a big part of my writing. I think denomination mixing plays a role in that.
When did you first start writing?
In 2010 I had the dream that inspired Harvest and decided to write a book; I am still questioning the decision.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I am working on 3 right now but my main focus is "In the Mouth of Butterflies" which is about 9/11 from the mindset of the pilots. And the reason they choose to blame America and porn for the attack. It is more of a Tom Clancy thriller does not gore in any way.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I am working on 3 right now but my main focus is "In the Mouth of Butterflies" which is about 9/11 from the mindset of the pilots. And the reason they choose to blame America and porn for the attack. It is more of a Tom Clancy thriller not gore in any way.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smash is a great tool for me to test run stories and see what the audience thinks, what is this word success you speak of?
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The search for pushing boundaries and making innocent things evil and making it into a moral issue, I like to challenge the mindset of tradition.
What do your fans mean to you?
I can't say if I have any.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The possibility of enchiladas and a 3some in the same day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Sleeping, eating, and listening to music. Wake up to work, beg every female I contact to like me, get rejected, cry deeply, repeat. She is out there. Unfortunately, I think she is in Russia, and I have to order her through a website.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, The Harvest, my first book other than creative writing in school, was my first; it just happened to be a novel.
