Interview with JW Foxtemple

What do you read for pleasure?
I am a lover of fiction be it fantasy, science fiction, or horror. I have a personal library of over 2000 titles.
Describe your desk
I am a very old fashioned writer. My desk is my lap, and I take it with me everywhere I go.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Watching the characters come alive. When a character is really set it takes a life of it's own, and really writes it's own story.
What are you working on next?
A follow up to GMO Strain Origin. I feel the story should continue.
Who are your favorite authors?
Raymond E Feist, George RR Martin, S.M. Stirling, Steven Erickson, John Varley, Stephen King, Clive Custler. I could go on for days.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My girls, my pets, and my books.
When did you first start writing?
I remember the first story I wrote. I was in elementary school, and it was for a school contest. From the point on I have written poems, and short stories over the years.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything to me. I write for myself, but I tell a story for others to enjoy.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my wife, and kids. We have a small farm with twelve pets, so a lot of it is taking care of the animals.
What is your writing process?
I like to write a story from beginning to end no matter how long, or short. Once a plot is complete I go back to develop characters, and then go back to add more content. You could say I write the same story a good five, or six times before I even think of it as a rough draft.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I remember reading is A Wrinkle in Time. That story opened up the world of imagination to me. I became an addict of the imaginary.
