Interview with Linda K Hopkins

What do you read for pleasure?
I read many genres, but I love fantasy and paranormal romance.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I like to read on my iPad using the kindle app.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
AMS and newsletter ads, but there is nothing quite as effective as developing relationships with my readers, who become my best advocates.
Describe your desk
A row of books that I constantly refer to behind my laptop, and piles of notebooks, on either side!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. Hot summer days were the perfect the perfect breeding ground for imaginative ideas.
When did you first start writing?
When have I not been writing? From the time I could write, I wrote stories, poems and plays.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is the completion of the series, The Dragon Archives, which brings the story around full circle.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My first book was about 'testing the waters,' but when people started contacting me to say how much they enjoyed it, I knew I had to keep going. I love the fact that I have complete control over the process of writing, publishing and marketing, and the myriad of successful indie authors out there are a wonderful testament to how liberating it is to be an indie author.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords opened doors to markets I wouldn't otherwise have been able to reach, and greatly eased the process of reaching big retailers like Apple and Barnes and Noble.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I think the opportunity to take my wild and crazy imaginings and wrestle them into a story others want to read.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are everything! I love connecting with my readers and interacting on social media. They are the reason I keep writing!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The fact that I get to do what I love - write!
