Interview with C.F. Leach

Published 2019-05-30.
What are you working on next?
I am working on completing Where in Oz is the Church: Are you on the right path?
Who are your favorite authors?
God, Aesop, C.S. Lewis, Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll, J.K. Rowling, Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm to name a few.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The fact that God blessed me with another day since the beginning of creation to be a better mother, wife, christian and to be able to create more works that will help others to see further than the day before.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Praying. Taking care of my husband who the doctors say has Dementia with late onset Alzheimers takes us the majority of my time. Talking with my children. When I'm not attending Bible Study, Church or helping our pastor's wife prepare for Children's Ministry. Always jotting down notes for the next project.
What is your writing process?
I really don't have a particular writing process per se. Usually the title will come first and then an outline which I usually try to follow sequentially. But at times the chapters are written out of sequence. Sometimes I may write the ending first. I am just starting to come into my own. Because of the type of genre I write it is becoming less complex and more simplified as the ideas flow more readily onto the pages. The writing process is taking less time than before---now that I have somewhat developed my own process of creativity.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I cannot remember the first story I ever read because as a child I was an avid reader. But my favorite book was Aesop's Fables. And one of the stories in this book was the Tortoise and the Hare. It impacted me to this very day and made me realize that in life, slow and steady wins the race every time. Diligence has a creative effectiveness when performed consistently.
How do you approach cover design?
I get a vision in my head and try to have it recreated by a graphics artist who can also catch that vision. Sometimes I may see a photograph that inspires the cover design for a particular book. It just depends on the flow of creative juices at that particular time.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Holy Bible. Because it is a reflection of the mind of God and a road map to man's destiny. Aesop's Fables because if you have discernment this book hands you wisdom from your youth. The Chronicles of Narnia the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe because the heart of Jesus is woven within the story-line. If You Need HEALING Do These Things because it teaches nuances on how to position yourself to be healed and to quantify your faith. The Wizard of Oz because it teaches you how to do Spiritual Warfare while keeping your eye on your destiny.
What do you read for pleasure?
May be a movie I've seen that I want to read the book or a suggested book I might have seen on the Internet.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My personal tablet using Play Books.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Still trying to formulate the ideal marketing strategy---
Describe your desk
My desk is comprised of two desktop computers. With 2 cups full of pencils, pens and highlighters. One cup says the Real Boss and the other says Baush and Lomb where my husband previously worked. And a plethora of cartoon characters specifically Sponge Bob, the minion Bob, a green Stegosaurus. Bullseye from the Toy Story, Stitch from Lilo and Stitch, a turtle paper weight, a tension ball, a contraption for my mail and a cross that has Faith on it.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Frankfort, Kentucky. My influences were internal as I had few friends and oftentimes would write poetry or essays as outlets for my loneliness.
When did you first start writing?
When in high school I wrote poetry.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book, Where in Oz is the Church, which will be published soon. Was inspired by God which gave me a deeper look into the characters and how their shortcomings became their strong points after going through many tests. I have been watching the movie the Wizard of Oz ever since I was a child but never grasped the revelation until 2 years ago and ran with it. It is to inspire those who read it. To help them overcome what they may see as deficits that are merely building blocks to their destinies.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
it just kind of happened---as I diligently began to chase after my vision.
