Interview with Natalia Burianyk

Published 2018-06-13.
What made you write your book?
My constant search for authentic experiences while visiting a country - smells, tastes, art, culture, locals, attitudes, you name it. Being bombarded with information on a daily basis, it is very difficult to sift through all this and make the best choices for a visit, if time is an issue. Writing a book allowed me to share my love of Nice and its culture and provide tips for enjoying the authenticity of the place.
What do you read for pleasure?
I have books for every mood: mysteries for when I am feeling low, classical literature for when I need some substance and non-fiction of all sorts (art, history, fashion, interior decorating, cooking, etc.) for my mind.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am still trying to figure it out.
How would you like your readers to remember you?
As a person who encouraged them to enjoy life.
What influenced your writing?
Extensive travelling in Europe.
What's the story behind your latest book?
While living in The Netherlands, we bought an apartment in Nice. That was the beginning of my love affair with the city.
What kind of travel books do you like?
The ones with a personal point of view, informative and dealing with cross-cultural differences. It is those differences that make us introspective and have us learn more about ourselves.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have no patience being at someone else's mercy when I can just go ahead and do things myself.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
This is my first experience with both being an indie writer and Smashwords, but I have high hopes.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It gave me a chance to live through my most memorable experiences- to walk down the narrow streets of Old Nice, to taste and smell its food, to drink champagne on the beach and to communicate with the French. What can be better than that?
Smashwords Interviews are created by the profiled author or publisher.
