I miss having a desk. One of the challenges of long-term traveling is having to make-shift workspace. It's rare to find an actual desk or even a table that's a suitable height at inexpensive apartments and hotels. Right now I use a patio table borrowed from the landlord when I'm at the studio, and I do a lot of my work at cafes.

I grew up on an old ranch near the coast in California. The rural setting, local lore, and trips to ghost towns inspired a fascination with wildlife, indigenous cultures, the supernatural, and history. All of these elements continue to inspire my writing.

When I was a child I wrote a newspaper and sold copies on the playground. I was called into the principal's office and made to return the coins, marbles, and other loot I gained from my enterprise. I wrote mystery stories, too. In my twenties, I made my first professional sale to a British Horror anthology.

I wanted to write a relic quest adventure. In the back of my mind, I wondered what would happen if there was a 'crystal skull' artifact that was real. From the beginning, I wanted the relic to be similar to the crystal skulls but ancient and powerful. As I was finishing the duet, I discovered research that ties into the artifact's legends. The quest for longevity and the fountain of youth weaves into these books, too. And lots of sex.

My passion for writing, independence, and fast gratification. I enjoy control, too. Being able to take a book from idea to reality in a matter of weeks or months instead of years is addictive. I'd had an encouraging response from a major agent. Actual publication, after who knows how long spent querying agents, would have been in the distant future. I looked into the Erotica boom on Amazon in 2015 and never looked back. The boom times are long gone, yet there's still nothing I'd rather do than write fiction.

I love Smashwords. Having an author-friendly store and distributor that provides clear guidelines about sexual content instead of terminating accounts without warning--that's a huge improvement.
