Interview with R.J. McKay

Published 2014-10-14.
What are you working on next?
The answer is two fold:
Currently I am fleshing out the first draft of the second story in the series.
Additionally I'm always adapting and detailing the over-arching long-term storyline of the Pulse Girl series.
I've the first four stories mapped out in great detail. They're very compelling and I can't wait to get them all on paper. Beyond that, I have a rough idea where the characters, city and obstacles will be going and growing over time.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The second volume in the PulseGirl series:

A year has passed and our heroine has not only accepted her role, but excelled at it.
She is a bit cocky and doesn't ask for help... this will need to change for her to survive her newest challenges.
There is a new drug threatening to take over the city and the authorities seem to be of no use stopping it.
If that wasn't enough she is constantly being hunted by the rock-skinned mutant named Yellowstone. He has developed an unhealthy sexual obsession with her after the night under the bridge over a year ago..and will do anything to make her his sex toy, or break her trying.

Broken dreams, broken promises and broken bodies.
What is your writing process?
Where do I want the character to go? How will they grow? Where do they start and end?
Fill in the plot outline, create compelling imagery.
Flesh out a horrendous detailed outline/first draft.
Breath life and pace into it and call it a real first draft.
Refine a second draft.
Add the in-book illustrations and cover, finalization and editing.
Force myself to publish even though you never feel it's done and it could use more work. Because if I don't force the publish it may never get done.
How do you approach cover design?
Personally I like to illustrate a tone or overall feel of the content without having the image have any direct correlation to what happens in the story. I don't like giving anything away, I don't like teasers or samples. It detracts from the experience in my personal opinion.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. I was, and still am, a big fan of the erotic super-heroine community. I would be willing to go out on a limb and bet that 99%% (if not all) of the creators and distributors of this genre, if any format, are also fans of it.
When did you first start writing?
I've been writing for several years. Screenwriting was the genre I originated in; more recently I've been inspired by others to do fictional short story/novella format.
Who are your favorite authors?
Steve Bell, J.K. Waylon, Maddox, Chris Vogler, and Gav Thorpe to name a few
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Samsung galaxy tab4
