Interview with Stephanie O'Neil

Published 2019-10-11.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Past Tense is a fast paced and high intensity detective mystery novel. There are a lot of twists and turns that will keep you guys who did it until the very end. There is a lies, precarious situations, action, adventure, and a little romance. It's going to leave you wanting more.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love reading mainstream novels as well as independently published novels as well. I have found that the indie authors are just as talented as mainstream authors and I always wanted to give them a fair chance. I wanted to prove that a (my) self published can be just a great as anyone else that went the more traditional route.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It has given me (my book) the opportunity to be seen by many different readers through it's large distribution abilities.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating worlds where anything is possible, creating a getaway for readers, and creative enjoyable entertainment.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything.
What are you working on next?
As I said previously, Past Tense is going to leave you wanting more and that is a great thing because I have to second instalment in the works now. It's called Present Tense and it follows DeLuca & Moretti on their pre-wedding honeymoon to Rome. I guarantee that it will keep pace with the first book and hopefully exceed expectations, keeping you wanting even more!
Who are your favorite authors?
My very first favorite author was R.L. Stine. I read all of his Goosebumps books as your elementary school child and soon moved on to his Fear Street books when I became a bit older. I enjoy reading Dean Koontz, Richard Castle, Lee, Child, Catherine Coulter (her FBI series), and most recently I've been into cozy mysteries by Bobbi Holmes.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Mostly my kids and the need to get them to school! Haha! All jokes aside, I love getting up in the morning and thinking about all of the ways I can create new content for my readers. I love going to the coffee shop to work along side my amazing husband who is really the one to give me my motivation to keep going even when I feel like I've hit a wall. He's my biggest fan and supporter.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Hanging out with me husband and three kids, playing with our two dogs, taking our kids to and watching their sporting events, hanging out with friends, creating content for my social media pages, engaging with my readers... the list goes on!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Smashwords, of course but I also use BookBub a lot!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Honestly, no. I'm fairly certain the first story I wrote was back in elementary school for an assignment. I don't remember the story but I do remember my teacher telling my mom how good it was and that I would probably be a writer some day!
