Interview with Nikki Vale

What do you read for pleasure?
I love to read contemporary romance, paranormal romance, historical romance, suspense and thrillers. I usually go back and forth between different types of romance and when I've had enough of that for a while I turn to the action packed books. If I can find books that incorporate both, even better!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Mine is my IPad or an actual paperback.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to share my stories and I didn't want to fight to get it published so I looked into doing it all myself. I don't know how well I'll do, but at least I took a chance.
Describe your desk
My kitchen table.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I get lost in the story as I write it. I find myself laughing and crying along with my characters. My family thinks I'm crazy.
What is your writing process?
It's a hot mess. I have so many stories I want to put on paper sometimes I'm writing more than one at a time because I don't want to lose the great ideas that pop into my head.
How do you approach cover design?
First of all the cover has to fit the genre I'm writing in. When I pick a cover I think to myself, if I saw that on the shelf would I want to pick it up and read the back? If I wouldn't, then it's not a cover I should put on my book. End of story.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A serial killer is on the loose and Detectives Sanchez and Critchfield are on the job. Will they find the killer, will they find love or will they find both of their lives in danger?
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
By allowing me the freedom to publish my own books at the price and on the timeline that I set for myself. Absolutley marvelous!
What do your fans mean to you?
I've only just begun but I hope my books are liked enough that I begin to have fans. I'm optimistic!
