Interview with Theresa Stone

Published 2022-12-20.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
In spite of the fact that I have been doing painting and illustration all my life, I wanted to try myself in this branch and express myself through words. While I am used to one way of expressing myself, I am always looking for new challenges.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I'm still new here so I can't say much yet, but I'm hoping for the best.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
In the process of writing, I love that aspect the most - being in other people's shoes. Expressing other people's thoughts, desires, understanding other people's motivations, even though it conflicts with my beliefs.
What are you working on next?
I have some hot topics on my mind, but nothing is clear yet. I am preparing the second part of The Sexual Animosity and I strive to make that story even more exciting.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Mostly, it's my cat and my dear husband.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Drawing and being creative are what I do most of the time. The fact that I am a workaholic makes not doing anything an impossible mission, even when exhausted.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do remember it, yes. As a child, I wrote a horror story about werewolves that gathered in front of my house and attacked passers-by. There was a lot of bloodshed and I was very detail oriented :)
How do you approach cover design?
Because I have been doing illustrations for so many years, designing covers comes naturally to me. My cover design for Sexual Animosity was done in Canva, and I'm very pleased with it.
What do you read for pleasure?
When I was younger, I loved reading horror, and my bookshelf mostly contains that genre. But today, I mostly like to read about psychology and astrology. I like to explore the human mind.
To what extent did the mentioned topics in your book shape your way of writing?
A lot actually. All these topics: psychology, astrology, occult, sex, horror contain a common thing, which is dealing with what is undiscovered about human nature. It may be discovered, but it's still fascinating to write about. I like to combine disciplines and use them to create individual theories about life.
When did you first start writing?
I think I was about 10 years old. Although none of the books were finished, I enjoyed writing them nonetheless.
What's the story behind your latest book?
This is a unique story that will catch readers' attention thanks to the multiple layers this book has. It has a deep insight into human nature and its darkest forms as well as the power and capabilities one nation can have when united. This leads to further questioning of moral principles and ethics on an individual level.
Moral ethics are the most discussed questions here. Humans tend to feel control over their bodies and emotions, but what if one starts loving the pain and horror? Is it possible to escape desires too long by trying so hard?
