Interview with A D Tether

Published 2013-11-08.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite author has to be F.Scott Fitzgerald, his writing gives me goosebumps I guess I have read his works over and over again. I also enjoy the works of Phillip Pullman, Jack Vance and Piers Anthony.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life and looking through my window to see beautiful countryside, each day I try and value just how lucky I am.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Being a couch potato watching television, or if I am brutally honest spending too much time on Facebook chatting to my friends about The Killers, okay I know it is an obsession but why not. If I am not doing that having fun with our family and taking holidays in the U.K.
What is your writing process?
I will have a story in my head and work hard on how to get to certain situations or scenes, if I am stuck I will leave my keyboard and go outside and sit in our garden for about ten minutes, usually it then all falls into place. I do not have a routine, some days I will write more words than other days, and some days will do no writing at all; I believe that way it stops the tale from becoming to mechanical. When I have written a chapter I will leave it for a while then go back and re-read it with fresh eyes to see if it makes sense.
How do you approach cover design?
I am hopeless to be honest as getting my head around design is rather difficult, although I can draw and paint. So as this is my first attempt I just tried to keep it simple and found a good tip on the internet and used Powerpoint and a free photograph which I had touched up in Photoscape. Maybe next time I will make a better job of it.
Describe your desk
I wrote most of my novel on a desktop computer but as we only have a small house the desk was taking up too much space, so I invested in a refurbished laptop, so my desk is actually my lap and sofa.
