The very first "long" thing I wrote was a paragraph in third grade that went longer than the space provided. In fourth grade I wrote two page foolscap pages regularly. I don't recall what any of them were about. In high school I wrote a horrible self-centered book about my friends and what we'd be doing after high school. It was not very complimentary to a couple of my "friends." I guess I wasn't really friends with them anymore at that point.

My first thing I didn't hate was Second Chance Romance. Of course, now I consider it not so good as I've learned a lot about wriitng.

My muse throws some characters at me.
I write down the story.
I plot the story and make sure I have all the plot points at the right times and fill in any gaps.
I beg people to read it over.
I add details, because I skip over details when I'm getting the story down. I'm an "I love you" slut. I rush for it.
I edit until I hate the story. Then let my editor go over it. Then I edit it some more.

I grew up in a small town in Saskatchewan. Population 400, and a few hundred more in the rural around the town. Most of my friends were on farms and I was in town. We did have a great library and librarian who never charged late fees. I read a lot of books and a lot of YM magazine as a teenager.

I have been making up stories in my head as long as I can remember. I started writing them down around 14. I also wrote a lot of terrible poetry as a teenager.

I wrote a short story called Hot for Teacher. I wanted to do a teacher-student story but one that wasn't a "barely legal" type. It's set in a small town much like where I grew up. We had a couple hot teachers over the years but none of them stuck around like Nick. So I had the idea of a student returning to town and running into her former hot teacher came about. And then the characters took over the story. Lindsay not feeling good enough and Nick, patient with a masochistic Dominant streak.

No one was going to publish me otherwise. LOL. But I think my stories are worth reading, and my steadily growing readership has confirmed that I'm doing something right. I continue to grow as a writer and my books reflect my history. Even though I don't love Second Chance Romance, readers continue to find me and read everything I write.

Without Smashwords the indie industry would not be what it is. I would not have reached the audiences I have. It meant that Amazon wasn't the only player and going wide has been much better for my brand than putting all my books into Amazon.

Sharing my characters with the world. I fall in love with all of them. Some more than others. Gabe, Ben and NIck I really love them. And Corey and Eric. And.... okay all of them.

Who would any of us be without people reading our writing? I'm always a little shocked when someone messages me or I get the notification someone bought my book or signed up for my newsletter. It's why I give away all my books to my newsletter upon release. WIthout you all, I wouldn't keep writing. Or keep sharing at least.
