Interview with Christine Walters

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
What inspires me to get out of the bed is knowing that I'm not going to be able to make anything happen by laying in the bed.

I'm really big on trying my best not to put off anything I can do today for tomorrow. Tomorrow's never guaranteed.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on publishing my second book. I will be releasing the title and book cover soon so stay tune ☺
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I'm praying, spending time with family, and working.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. Lol. I do remember the first story I ever wrote. Ironically, it was when I was in the 4th grade and it was a Halloween story. I didn't think it was that great but my teacher loved it.
How do you approach cover design?
The cover is an actual picture of me and my mom. I really wanted the cover to repersent the story.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
The market techniques that have been most effective for me are all techniques. I think marketing is very important to be able to get the word out for people to see where your book is being sold in the store and/or online. Marketing is spreading the message and it's very important especially in today's time because everything is fast paced. Technology is always changing and updating. Anything I don't know how to do in regards to marketing I Google it.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Buffalo, New York and in Fort Myers Florida. On my birthday I moveed to Fort Myers, Florida with my family. I think I was around 11 or 12 years old. Our home in Buffalo, New York burnt down and we were living out of a motel after the fire. My father was struggling with lupus. So my parents decided to relocate to Florida instead of rebuilding the home because it's a warmer state to extend his life span.
When did you first start writing?
I have to say this is a hard question for me to answer because I always wrote on loose leaf paper. I would write poems, songs, letters that I would never send out, and short stories fiction and nonfiction. I remember submitting a poem I wrote when I was really young but I can't remember what the poem was about. I did win a contest and the poem was entered in their book. I always knew that I was going to write a book about my life. Unfortunately, I knew it was not going to happen until after my mother passed away. I don't mean to say that to sound bad. My mother had a severe mental illness and she would have took the book that I wrote the wrong way. I don't even have any of my written work from when I was a kid. I either lost it or my mom would find it and destroy it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is to be able to put my feelings down on paper and express myself my way. If I'm writing nonfiction I'm going to say just how I feel. If I'm writing fiction I can let my imagination take me as far as I want it. I have a great joy writing freestyle.
What do your fans mean to you?
Great question! My fans mean a lot to me. The amount of appreciation and support from my fans mean so much to me. I receive a lot of emails and I am very open-minded how others feel and think. I feel truly blessed to be able to have people open up to me by sharing their stories, their struggles and what God has done in their lives. Honestly, I never thought I would ever have fans or that my book will take off in a way that it has. I truly believe the everything I went through has been nothing but the grace of God. So my fans mean everything because they support me. They purchase my book. They send me emails and they even thank me for writing this story. I truly hope that my fans love my second book just as much as they love Ginny and Me: Reflections of What God Can Do. Many more books coming.

Abuse is damaging. It comes from cycles of abusive behaviors learned and repeated through generations. Because of shame and embarrassment, many people do not speak about the cruelty they endured. In my case, most of the abuse I suffered resulted from my mother’s mental illness. For my entire life, people told me to excuse my mom’s abuse because she was mentally ill.
