Interview with Benjamin Meredith

What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest (and only, I should probably add) book is all about meeting my best friend Kyah. I was only eighteen when I decided to fly across the ocean to London, England; and that was intimidating to say the least. Over the course of three months, I worked two summer jobs and had to figure out how to travel to another country on my own. It was easily the most thrilling decision I've made in life, and I can't say Kyah feels any different. ;)
Describe your desk
I think it would be easier to describe what's not on my desk: Open space. Kidding aside, I've got a microscope on one end of my desk, and beakers on another. Oh, and of course, lots and lots of books!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
As a young child, I moved from Louisville, Kentucky to Austin, Texas. From Texas, it was to New Albany, Indiana for a year. And finally, at the age of ten, we settled in Loretto, Kentucky-- a super-small town in the middle of nowhere. Growing up in the country, I learned more than I wanted about farming. Also, I had lots of down time to play sports or do whatever else. This type of freedom allowed me to always be curious, which I believe is the foundation for my constant imagination.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My iPad is a must when reading any type of fiction or biographical work.
What do you read for pleasure?
This is going to sound super nerdy, but I can't get enough of textbooks. I LOVE science, and when I have free time I'm learning (or trying to learn) about different subjects. Currently, I'm on a Javascript book.
