Interview with Collette Cameron

Published 2014-11-24.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town along the Oregon Coast. Lots of rainy days kept me inside as a child, and early on, I developed a love of reading. My passion for reading led me to become a writer.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing professionally in February of 2011.

I had a scene pop into my head and wanted to see if I could write an entire story around it. My first book, Highlander's Hope (Castle Brides Series) as the result.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Which one? LOL!

I'm in the middle of three series: Highlander Heather Romancing a Scot Series, Conundrums of the Misses Culpeppers series, and To Wed a Highlander series. I also have a noveletta, A Kiss for Miss Kingsley, and anthology, Love Letters, and a boxed novella set, Captivated by His Kiss releasing in the next couple of months.

All of my books have characters that reappear or secondary characters I've fallen in love with and wanted to give them their own story.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'm contracted with a publishing house, and while I have found the experience enlightening, I wanted to give indie publishing a try.

A Kiss for Miss Kingsley, Bride of Falcon, and Heart of a Highlander (Love Letters anthology through Windtree Press) are all indie works.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love spinning words into tales!
What do your fans mean to you?
I adore my readers!

They've proven to be the most generous, supportive people!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am an elementary teacher too, though I only substitute these days.

I'm love gardening, long walks, decorating, and playing with my 5 dachshunds.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I sure do!

Highlander's Hope. I was blessed to have the first thing I wrote get published.
What do you read for pleasure?
I don't know a single author who doesn't read for pleasure, though most, like me, find they have far less time to do it than they would like.

Because my reading time is so limited, I am very selective in what I read and usually have 2-3 books going at the same time.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I prefer print book; I'm old fashioned that way.

However, most of what I read in on my Kindle. I do have the Kindle app for my Ipad but haven't done anything with it yet.

I really should since the screen is bigger and it would make for easier reading!
Describe your desk
I have an antique vanity that I painted white and converted into a desk. It's adorable with two little raised drawers on either side and drawers down the left and right sides too. I have a shabby chic lamp with a pink fringed shade on one side and framed pictures of my 3 kids on the other.
