What do your fans mean to you?
Readers are the moment the writer's work is devoted. Writing is a solitary act, but when a leitror read the story I wrote and I get a message like that book was important to him, I feel accomplished and thankful to be a writer. I am no longer alone and that story will come to life and continuity in the minds and hearts of many readers, who may love that book.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Paintings, Movies, Books, Tai Chi Chuan, Meditation, Beach.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Internet
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was in my childhood. A horror story. About one and a swamp monster, but the monster was good. He had a good character.
What is your writing process?
Usually at home, but anywhere would do. A compulsive writer sees no time or place to fulfill its compulsion. At the living room, in the kitchen, inside a bus, in the toilet, airplane, anywhere is a good place for the creative process. The only thing I need is a paper and a pen because I handwrite everything. The first version is always heart-written (rapid and spontaneous), the second version is reason-written, all to the notebook with the due corrections, modifications and additions.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
In my childhood I started with the books of Jules Verne and a great Brazilian writer Monteiro Lobato called. Both fantasy. Then came Isaac Asimov, Edgar Alan Poe and many others.
How do you approach cover design?
I passed the idea to cover a great Brazilian designer named Cesar Oliveira. The blue cover, the mountains and the Chinese temple can already give you an idea of what the reader will find this adventure: spirituality, mystery, action and perhaps an answer to the meaning of our existence.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
All the books of Carlos Castaneda, my great inspiration.
Stephen King.
Eric Van Lustbader.
Yogananda.
Tolkien.
What do you read for pleasure?
All readings are a pleasure. On my website www.fasoli.com.br is a list of many books that I love.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Generally tablets. IPad and IPhone.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The book is a deep spiritual romance. An adventure about the energies of the world and the universe. It starts in Peru at the exotic Chinese Neighborhood, and shows that in this journey towards the inside of the human being "there is a big difference between knowing the way and walking the way".
The author's fascination for his spiritual search and for self-knowledge started when he was seven, living in Lima (Peru). His contact with the peruvian people and wisdom and the Chinese Neighborhood in Lima led him to know a sage called Mr. Chang Lau, an immigrant from Shanghai.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
A more direct contact with readers.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
The speed and ease with which the book reaches the reader.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
People say that right before we die our whole life passes in front of our yes in a few seconds. So, I've been through this process without physically dying. This is the experience that the book In the Silence of the Heart gave me. When we die the spirit gains freedom, lucidness and consciousness - but this may not always be so and depends on how many illusions or bad things we are carrying with us to the other side. If we have the courage to see the past and the present, without fear of looking at the best and the worse in ourselves, we acquire these three harmonic properties of the spirit, where the balancing factor between the material and spiritual forces is the heart (Love). It's only after living all of this In the Silence of the Heart (his or her) that one will became a better person e will have accomplished another step of his or her evolution.
When I am asked to comment on the book, I usually quote the introduction where I mention it to be "a liar auto-biography and a true fiction". What I am trying to say is that the book is made for two kinds of people. To those who believe and are fond of the spiritual issues, that will find a close connection with the book. But also to the skeptics, that even not believing at all in the spiritual, will see it as a work of fiction, funny, involving, and impregnated of a wisdom which belongs to humanity. My inspiration comes always from "the ancients". Ancient masters and sages, ancient civilizations and ancient philosophies that have once been to the Earth and left their messages. On the ancient wisdoms lie the deepest truths of the men. And I belong to this part of humanity (the ones that have gained from this wisdom) since my apprenticeship will be sure eternal. I love to be a permanent disciple. Being a disciple is more interesting and funny than being a master, this is why most of the characters that I created are wise and funny at the same time. "Wisdom and good sense of humor must walk together for our spirits to be free", is what "El Coyote" would say (one of the characters of the trilogy The Skull that I've written).
What are you working on next?
In a book of tales of terror and the supernatural and a third spiritual novel that takes place in four continents.
Who are your favorite authors?
Carlos Castañeda.
Eric Van Lustbader.
Tolkien.
Ray Bradbury.
George R. R. Martin.
Jack Keruac.
