Interview with Jeffrey Lynn Stoddard

Published 2013-09-13.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story to ever hit my typewriter (yes, typewriter - obviously back in the stone age) was about a young man and his sister who were trying to overcome the obstacles of budding adulthood that lay in their paths. This was both humorous and poignant in that it showed so many different aspects of a complicated issue.
Describe your desk
My desk is an iPad. Back in the days of the dinosaurs I had an old portable manual typewriter placed on whatever flat surface wherever I happened to be working at the time. The tablet eliminates the clutter that might otherwise be scattered about, seeing as how I am anything but organized.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After having little luck and a few painful experiences with print publishers, I decided it was time to get out from under the 'suits' and do things my own way, where the only person I had to answer to (or blame) was myself. With the advent of the eBook, it was obvious the direction that literature was headed and I needed to get in on the ground floor. It was the best decision of my life. I did have to buy back my rights from one publisher - at some cost - but it was the best money I ever spent.
