Interview with Judah LaBrie

Published 2014-01-12.
When did you first start writing?
I was writing songs and short stories at about eleven or twelve.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Scroll of Eden is book one in an eight part series called "Passing Evils." It is set in the antediluvian time period (pre-biblical flood.) Giants are seeking a scroll that contains a map back to Eden, where the Tree of Life holds the answer to immortality. Shamal, an old warrior is set on destroying the scroll before it is in the wrong hands...
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It is awesome to find people who like you, and get good feed back from those who do not. It's enjoyable when someone hates your work so much that they have to rant about it, but somewhere in that is some truth...
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
An amazing amount of downloads, more than I thought would happen the first month...
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing the characters come to life in each scene, and watching them grow as you add details and back story...
What do your fans mean to you?
when I get one, that will be great...until then...
What are you working on next?
Book two in the Passing Evils series. It will pick up with some surprises and new characters, along with some answers and a map...look for it in March of this year.
Who are your favorite authors?
Ted Dekker, Frank Perrieti, and history writers... and of course finding new indie authors who are on the same road as me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My relationship with Jesus Christ. though my fiction writing is not "Christian." I do not hide who Christ is to me, my Lord and Savior...
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Church, Family, Work, Reading/ Research.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Story plot. Reviews can be deceiving, fake ones to make your book look better, bad ones by bitter editors who dislike the whole indie process, to make it look worse.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was a hidden message in a poem for a school project. Will have some hidden clues in books to come, great idea!
What is your writing process?
Story plot, layout, chapter ideas, then write, write, re-write and delete, then write, then realize you did not follow the layout, so I end up with a lot of extra chapters, but I put them in next book...
