Interview with Katie Rodante

Published 2020-08-13.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do! The first story I ever wrote was fan-fiction (though I didn't realize it at the time) of the movie Poltergeist. I watched the film as a kid and wrote a 17 chapter novel inspired by the movie. I wish I still had it!
What's the story behind your latest book?
My poetry chapbook "Autumn Reveries" was written due to my love of Halloween. The book is entirely haiku, which I really do enjoy writing although I do *not* usually write traditional haiku, and I enjoyed the challenge of writing miniature stories in only 17 syllables.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read all sorts of things. I love poetry, fantasy, romance, memoir, middle grade... I don't limit myself when it comes to reading because I like to experience all sorts of different stories.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Either my Kindle Fire or my phone. Phone reading is best for on the go, while my Fire is great when I'm home.
When did you first start writing?
Oh gosh, when I was so young I can hardly remember. Besides my Poltergeist fan-fiction, I recall opening a word processing program on my parents' computer, browsing clip art images, and writing short stories about the ones that inspired me.
