Interview with Ken Doggett

Published 2014-07-04.
What do you read for pleasure?
Science Fiction, Historical, and science.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Participation on reading websites, primarily Goodreads
When did you first start writing?
While I was in the US Army. A friend had mentioned he was writing a book, so I thought I'd give it a try. Since my first choice was Science Fiction, I wrote the worst Science Fiction book you'd ever want to read.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My experience with conventional publishers is that they take far too long to respond, and even when they accept your work, it's a long time before it ever gets published. Self-publishing is much quicker, though far more complicated, but I think I do better work when I know it will be published as soon as I produce the finished product.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating new worlds, and new characters to live in them.
What are you working on next?
My second Science Fiction novel.
Who are your favorite authors?
Arthur C. Clarke, Larry Niven, Harlan Ellison, Isaac Asimov, John W. Campbell.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually they're recommended to me by other readers I find on the reading websites.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was a complete Science Fiction cliche, about aliens invading Earth.
