Interview with Kristie Love

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I love the ability to create short book trailers on YouTube. I feel that promoting my books on YouTube gives my readers a little more bang for their buck. They are able to get closer to their favorite author and visually enjoy an author's creative side through video.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew in a very quiet neighborhood. I feel that my writing was influenced by soap operas. The lives of the rich and villainous always intrigued me.
When did you first start writing?
Grade school.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I started constructing the world of Jazz Blue when I was in high school. I would daydream about Jasmine Osa and Alexander Frame almost daily. I could not get these characters out of my head. For more, visit my most recent blog post Confessions of an Author.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I had stories to tell but wasn't sure how to go about self publishing. The founder of Smashwords, Mark Coker has videos on YouTube that were a tremendous help and inspiration to me. I would watch his very thorough videos over and over again on YouTube to help make my self publishing dreams come true.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I feel that Smashwords has a very robust SEO engine that makes my ebooks very easy to locate on the internet.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Connecting with people all around. I love to help and support others through all walks of life.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything to me. Being a creative person can be hard at things. Sometimes, to finish projects, you have to isolate yourself but my fans quickly bring me back to reality with their positive reviews and emails of thanks.
What are you working on next?
Another Jazz Blue series book titled Dedication to Death. I can't wait to publish it for my fans.
Who are your favorite authors?
Zora Neale Hurston and Toni Morrison!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I love life. Everyday you get to begin again;fresh and new.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Lol. Yes. I was in high school and wrote a book about teenage life titled A Coolness Summer. Lol. Oh wait…Does Young Author's count? In elementary school we had a Young Author's Program and we self published books once a year. I think I remember writing a story about a large brown bear. :-)
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. I lived a pretty sheltered life but reading Sister Souljah's book opened my eyes to another world that I really didn't know existed. Though it's a fictional book, it does accurately depict urban contemporary life.
What do you read for pleasure?
Currently, I am reading the Game of Thrones series by George R.R. Martin and little Stephen King sometimes.
