Interview with Laura Baddgor

Published 2014-12-18.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I enjoy playing computer games; especially time management and hidden object games to keep my mind motivated. I also enjoy an occasional movie, diving into other authors' books and spending time with my family.
What makes you want to get out of bed in the mornings, excluding writing?
My cat Kipper, who sticks his wet nose on my face (making me slimy and wet) and his whiskers to tickle me awake so he can get some attention. He doesn't care if I want to sleep longer. He's tired of waiting ALL NIGHT LONG to get spoiled! This happens every morning, too, unless I can get my door shut before he comes in the room and before I go to sleep. I also have a cat, Luna, who is a DIVA. Kipper is black and grey striped, Luna is yellow and white striped. They are both about the same size and they really look cool together!
What do you read for pleasure?
That's a hard question to answer. I guess I like to read fantasy the most. I also like sci-fi stories. I love horror books, too, but not the really gory ones. I like to be scared but not grossed out!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Since I read my ebooks on my computer and it's a desktop, I usually read in PDF format. I don't have any of the mobile devices that so many people use.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I've only been here for a few days so there hasn't been much yet. However, they are sending my ebook out to several different ebook sites so that more people can read it, and even sending it to Barnes and Noble. They do many things to help a writer get the book out there to be read. I was very impressed, actually, at everything that will be happening with my book. And they do it for free. Of course, if Barnes and Noble pick it up to put it in a paperback, then it will begin to cost some money. Right now, I am very happy with my story just as it is here.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I like the way my story just seems to unwind on its own; sometimes I have to write so fast so I can remember everything that is unfolding in my mind. I like getting so caught up in it that I find many ways to make it better. I feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment when I know my story gives pleasure to the reader. I get pleasure in the responses I receive. It makes me so excited and happy when someone I don't know and have never met tells me how it felt to read my book. Just writing itself gives me joy.
What do your fans mean to you?
The fans or readers mean EVERYTHING to me! They are the reason for writing in the first place! Even if the book was the best story written in the entire world, it wouldn't mean too much if nobody read it.
What are you working on next?
I'm not sure about what exactly I will write next. I have begun a sequel to 'Kahira's Destiny'. I have also barely started writing a romance. I want to write a series of children's books, the main character being my youngest grandson, Logan... an elf. I also want to write another fantasy not having to do with "Kahira's Destiny". But as for which I will write first, I really don't know.
Who are your favorite authors?
Glenn and Sasha Gabriel who have several fantastic books to read here on Smashwords. If it wasn't for their help when they didn't even know me, my book would never have been written. I can't leave Stephen King out! A genius of an author and I loved EVERYTHING he ever did! Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder who wrote the true story of Laura Ingalls Wilder in a series of books for young people. I loved those books when I was young and read them over and over. Of course I can't leave out Margaret Mitchell who wrote my favorite all time book (and movie), Gone With the Wind.
What five words would you describe yourself with?
Funny, adaptive, kind, spiritual, sensitive. Yep, that's me!
