Interview with Jason B. Reed

Published 2014-12-18.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on a Fantasy story about a young dying prince who needs to track down death itself in order to find a cure for his illness.
Who are your favorite authors?
All time favorites are Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, George RR Martin and Neil Gaiman.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, playing computer games. Also, a large chunk of time is spent at work.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mostly from Goodreads. Great website!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. Unfortunately, it was terrible and I really want to forget it again.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
That's a tough one. I sleep in a lot, so I guess I still need to set my priorities straight.
What is your writing process?
It's pretty chaotic, but I'm not a pantser. If anything, I consider myself a hybrid, between a pantser and outliner.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Definitely, I'll never forget. I was 9 or 10 (I know...) and was at a wedding with my parents. Near midnight I got sleepy so I was sent away. That night I fell asleep reading the first pages of the Foundation by Isaac Asimov. Best five minutes of my life!
How do you approach cover design?
I usually try to do it myself. I'm pretty handy with Photoshop and design. The cover has to hold some of the book's atmosphere--most important thing.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Foundation series and Dune series, and don't ask me to pick between the two!
I guess because in the end, all those books showed the evolution of a society, or more, over a large period of time. The most awesome thing I've encountered so far and I want to do the same thing with my writing.
What do you read for pleasure?
Sci-fi, Fantasy, maybe thrillers or horror. In 2014 I've been grinding at the Wild Card series edited by George RR Martin. They are awesome, but I've only been able to get to number 12 so far.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use an older iRiver story. You probably never heard of it. :)
