Interview with D.S. Kane

Published 2014-07-11.
Describe your desk
Notebook computer, a bookshelf containing books on hacking, espionage, the global banking system, and tips on creating effective scenes, mostly by Eric Witchey (E-D-A-C-E and A-B-C. Reference Witchey to see what he suggests for writers).
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in New York City. The frenetic activity of Manhattan drove me. My grandparents had a manual typewriter and by the time I was seven, whenever I visited them I was typing stories. I loved to tell stories, imagining the lives of the busy people I saw in the city, but my stories always had challenges for them to overcome.
When did you first start writing?
I saw a car accident in Brooklyn when I was seven. Lots of blood in the snow. I wrote it as flash fiction on my grandparents' old manual typewriter, even though I'd never heard the term.
