How do you approach cover design?
I use my own pictures but outsource the process of turning them into a cover.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. The 4-hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss because it introduced me to a new way of living.
2. Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk because it made me look at social media in a completely different way.
3. The Espresso Lessons: From The Rock Warrior's Way by Arno Ilgner because I love to climb and I highly respect the mindset that Arno has and teaches.
4. The Natural Born Heroes by Christopher McDougall because of what it taught me about the human potential.
5. The Blue Ocean Strategy by W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne because it changed my thoughts on business and taught me that there is no such a thing as competition.
What do you read for pleasure?
Non-fiction books that document the human potential in outdoor activities because I love to learn what's possible.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
The kindle app on the ipad.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Outsourcing.
Describe your desk
I use a standing desk and I also like to pace a lot.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on Lake Huron, MI and in Sarasota, FL, so my childhood home was always near water. I spent most of my time outside so I enjoy writing about anything that can be done outdoors.
When did you first start writing?
At age 18 when I was in the coast guard, I started writing about the places and things I had seen.

What motivated you to become an indie author?
During teacher trainings, I realized that more and more people actually did want to know about my experiences.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Knowing that it will affect people's lives in a positive way. People that I don't even know at parts of the world I am not even aware of.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! I would not be doing this if I did not care about people, the water and yoga.
