What's the story behind your latest book?
My Life Interpreted is about using your everyday experiences to figure out what life is trying to tell you. A lot of us have not recognized that the answers to the questions in life are found within our own lives. We just need to pay attention and everything will become clearer.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing makes me understand life. Life makes more sense to me when I write it down.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans validate me. They remind me that I am not alone. Their feedback is invaluable and that connection makes me realize that we are having a conversation that needs to be had.
What are you working on next?
My Life Interpreted Volume 2
Who are your favorite authors?
Neale Donald Walsch, Don Miguel Ruiz, James Patterson
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family. I write in #82 off my book about the joys of taking care of my home. I love being a wife and mom. And I love life too. Life inspires me. Every day there is something new to figure out.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love movies. Both in the cinema and at home. I also do a lot of work with a craft organization that I belong to, helping young artists develop and market their work.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
LOL. No! Shame on me! But I remember what inspired me to start writing. A friend wrote me a letter (back in the days when people wrote letters with a pen and paper) about a low point in her life and was contemplating suicide. I wrote her back a long response that made me realize that I had a story to tell. I haven’t stopped writing since.
What is your writing process?
Process? Is there one? I don’t have a process. I write when the inspiration hits. Anytime, anywhere. And then later, I sit, edit and put it all together.
With so many self help books, what sets you apart?
It’s funny, but I believe that what sets me apart is the fact that I am ordinary. I do not believe that you need to be ordained to receive the secrets to success in life. In fact, I write about this in one of my blog posts - http://mylifeinterpreted.com/girl-next-door/. I believe that we all have a story to tell and our ordinary lives can be extraordinary. We just need to pay attention.
