Jim has a BS in Chemical Engineering and an MBA, and somewhere in his past he earned the credits for being an apprenticed machinist but didn't fill out the paperwork. He's traveled extensively in Europe and Russia, and has worked in the Nuclear, Oil, Chemical, Life-Science and Filtration industry...anything that pays. With his own machine shop, 3D printer and CAD station he's prepared himself as best he can for the apocalypse, unless of course the apocalypse doesn't come, in which case he's just another eccentric living in the middle of nowhere in New Hampshire.
With half a dozen or so US Patents...and maybe one in Europe if he can ever figure out their really arcane system...he's had a lot of opportunities to make something of himself. So there's that.
