Brief CV on Mr. Mela Y. Dogo, a retired Director, from the Central Bank of Nigeria, Abuja
Mr. Mela Y. Dogo was born in 1958 to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Tela Yila Dogo, of Sansani Town, in Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Mr. M.Y. Dogo is married with three children. Mr. M.Y. Dogo received Christ as his Lord and Savior in July 1975 and was baptized on 17 December 1978 at the ECWA Goodness Church, Jos. He was involved in his early days as FCS Secretary, Leader of the Witnessing Team, FCS Travelling Secretary and in the Youth Fellowship as Bible Study Secretary, Prayer Secretary, and Public Relations Officer.
He was educated at Sansani LEA primary school, Government Secondary School, Billiri and the Universities of Jos, Nigeria and McGill, Canada. He holds an M.Sc. degree in Economics with specialization in Money and Finance from the University of Jos, Nigeria; MA in Economic Policy Management from McGill University, Montreal-Canada and a B.Sc. Degree in Economics from the University of Jos, Nigeria. He is an All but Dissertation (ABD) from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (1986-1993) and is a one time student of D. Phil in Economics candidate with Monarch University, Switzerland.
Mr. M.Y. Dogo has over twenty-seven (27) years of central banking experience, in addition to seven (7) years of lecturing Students of economics at the Advance level. He started his career at the Bauchi State Polytechnic as a lecturer in Economics immediately in August 1983 after the National Youth Service in 1982-1983. In November 1990, Mr. Dogo transferred his services to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), where he joined as an Economist. Between April -,September 1996, while on a six-months (6 months) internship, Mr. M.Y.Dogo worked at the EMTEN, World Bank Headquarters, Washington DC, USA, .
At the CBN, he was Economist in the Global Institutions and Monetary Relations Division of the International Economic Relations Department, November 1990 to April 1992; Senior Economist, Governor's Office Department, 2000-2004; Principal Economist, Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Matters, 2003- 2004; Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, 2005 to 2006, Assistant Director and Head, Financial Markets Group, 2006-2008; Head, International Economic Relations Unit, 2011-2012; Head, Liquidity Assessment Division, 2012-2015 and Head, Financial Policy Division, 2015- 2016.
Mr. M.Y. Dogo retired as a Director from the Central Bank of Nigeria on 31st July 2018 at the age of sixty. He was Deputy Director and Head, Macroeconomics Analysis and Policy Division, Monetary Policy Department, Central Bank of Nigeria, 2016-2018. As head, he helps in coordinating the activities of the money & foreign exchange markets office; the capital and other markets office as well as the Inflation Analysis office. He finalizes the production of reports on financial market developments and the production of the financial system stability index, exchange rate market pressure index and the investment index for Nigeria. Through these offices, he coordinates the monitoring and reporting of developments in monetary and financial markets and financial system stability, preparation of papers for conferences and seminars, production of research papers for publication in reputable journals, review papers written by subordinates, coordinates the preparation of the division’s budget, assists the Director in running the Department as well as undertakes ad-hoc assignments as may be determined by the Director.
Mr. M.Y. Dogo initiated the design of the Monetary Policy Review, the Financial Stability Report and was part of the team that introduced the Monetary Policy Educational Series. He also headed the team that wrote the first issue of “Understanding Monetary Policy Series”. Mr. M. Y. Dogo was Secretary to several Committees including the weekly Governor's Directorate Meetings, 2000-2004; Baseline Survey with Nigerian Universities, 2000-2004; Inter –Departmental Committee on Inflation Targeting, 2006-2008 and Financial Stability Report, 2007-2009, member CBN Budget Technical Committee, 2012 to date. He has some publications to his credit.
