Shield Knight: Monarch

Good story showing how the Queen of Nightmare forest solves disputes amongst lesser chieftains, having been asked to intervene on behalf of the Orc Headman, who cannot afford to offend either side. When after rendering judgement, one side that had accepted it then goes back on their word, violently, and earns a demonstration of how the Traveller came to die by her hand. Good story.

Interesting story following Ridmark Alban's oldest son Gareth as he makes a start on a career as a squire in the High King's household. If he and another squire can stop fighting each other long enough to engage with the Kingdom's enemies, that is.

Gareth Arben, still seeking renown to let him marry the woman he dreams of, volunteers for a mission to seek a secret path into an old stronghold, held by the Orcs. Is all as it seems, or is it a trap? Either way, he and his companions must open the fortress gates and hold them for their Liege Lord's assault. Good book, plenty of action and intrigue.
