When I read a report into the leadership failings that were implicated in 16 of the biggest disasters of the modern age, I was struck by how many of them were within the domain of HR - role clarity, oversight, training, and reward for example. I later read a report that said that out of 16 deaths to ethnic minorities in the Construction industry, 8 occurred in the first 10 days, and 4 occurred on their first day at work. It may be realise just how significant activities like recruitment and induction are.

After some research, I realised that there was nothing that set out the expectations and knowledge that HR people needed to understand these issues and manage the risk effectively.
