4.5 stars There is much to be said about a novel that just reads well. I've mentioned this before in other reviews I’ve written, but a book that keeps you reading long after you plan on putting it down ranks high for me. Not only is it entertaining, but you look forward to getting back into the book each and every time you pick it up, if you have the self-control to ever put it down. That is what reading this book “Friend & Foe Book 2” by Nik Olsen has done for me. Typical of many action/adventures I’ve read, “Friend & Foe 2” has much in the way of grittiness and high-stakes political maneuverings, yet it remains inventive. With twists and turns, you won't know who… or what… to believe and trust. The plot moved quickly and even though some traditional thriller archetypes show up, it is not in the usual way, which is refreshing. There only minor typos and editing glitches (mostly punctuation) but really nothing that hindered my enjoyment any. A very strong follow-up effort by Nik Olsen, and I will be looking forward to reading the conclusion of this exciting trilogy!

to say “Friend & Foe” is totally unlike anything I’ve ever read before would be an understatement! I’m not sure how to even describe this book as SO much happens, and it seems to touch on so many elements, themes, and subjects. Smooth pacing, plenty of action, and diverse characters, along with current-day issues makes this a definite winner in my eyes. I think that you need to take your time while reading it to really grasp everything the author is saying, as it will require some deeper thought and reasoning, and might even change your perspective on some things. Very interesting, and recommend to fans of modern literary world fiction.
  • Not Black and White: From The Very Windy City to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on July 07, 2016

I really enjoyed reading this book, “Not Black and White” by G.A. Beller. I thought it was excellently written, plot and pacing-wise, and it definitely kept my attention from the dramatic opening to the satisfying, somewhat bittersweet ending (enjoyed the epilogue where we see where everyone ends up). It is fast paced and easy to read quickly… finished it in the span of a few nights, but got a ton of story for my money, that’s for sure. This isn’t exactly what you would call a “PC” book, nor should it be… that’s the point. But if you are aware of the history of Chicago politics at all, or just want a better look into the seedy underbelly and corruption that leads all the way to the White House, then this is the perfect read for you. There are some harsh, ugly truths and realities here that are all too present in modern America. Was almost disappointed when I was done, but the ending gave the emotional satisfaction I look for in a great book. Well done
  • A Book for Oreo on Oct. 24, 2016

Caralee A. Jardine has a great way of sharing her stories. Her descriptions are vivid yet not overdone; you see what she is seeing and feeling, and you feel like you know Oreo personally… are there in their world with them as they experience the highs and lows of life, from beginning to end. The ending is quite heartbreaking and sad… but extremely powerful. Something that anyone who has experienced grief or great loss can understand. Overall had much more spiritual depth and complexity than I was initially expecting for a book about a cat, but was an inspiring, uplifting read, even if some parts were quite sad. I would like to thank Ms. Jardine for this candid look into her life, her love for Oreo and her tragic loss… but we are all better for having known him, even for a short while.
