Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Pleasant Hill, California, right outside San Francisco. It wasn't Mayberry but there were times people knew your business before you knew it. My characters usually live in the suburbs, for I write what I know. P Hill definitely influenced what I'm writing now: An elegy to the Dome, Pleasant Hill's oldest movie theater.
When did you first start writing?
I was ten! I was reading Nancy Drew that summer and something clicked in my head: I want to write. I want to create stories. I started writing about the adventures of Skye Patterson, who was very Nancy.
