L. Joseph Shosty

Biography

Film noir and mysteries were the first real literary loves L. Joseph Shosty experienced when he was a boy. He began by reading the Hardy Boys and Sherlock Holmes series before hitting junior high, watching such classics as The Thin Man, Charlie Chan, and The Maltese Falcon at the same time (he's also one of those stalwarts who believe Casablanca is film noir). Strangely though, when he started writing stories at age eleven, he wrote science fiction and fantasy instead. He now realizes it was a product of the times. He didn't like the gimmickry mystery series employed (A for Alibi, Death by Chocolate, etc.) It wasn't until a friend introduced him to the pulps while he was in his mid-twenties that he first considered it, and he didn't publish his first mystery story until a decade later. Nowadays, he's hard at work on The Hardwood Case Files series featuring his two-fisted pulp detective, Johnny Hardwood, and helping writers with their productivity at his site, Shostywrites.com.
