Scenes From When We Were Trying

Jesse Goros has an amazing capacity to put himself into the shoes of his characters. I felt drawn the individual struggles of each family member in the story played out through the the main novella. They became three-dimensional personalities and their interactions held me glued to the pages. The ambience of the entire book is haunting and, from time to time, heart-wrenching. The voices are authentic and the people are contemporary, carrying the same complexities and upheavals as those of your next door neighbors, your co-workers, or maybe even yourselves. The writing is sometimes unpolished, but this is an author who deserves to be read. I strongly recommend.
