Smashwords Interview

What inspired you to write Hunters?
I’ve always loved stories about an outsider in a new land, things like Wizard of Oz, but the
ending always felt wrong. If you had a grand magical adventure and saved the world, I couldn’t
imagine ever being content again without it. That’s always been a fascination for me, so I was
always primed to write a story like this. Then a couple things happened real fast: my personal
life changed course in a really brutal way, I saw a post online about chasing through portals, and
Nanowrimo started. The first third of Hunters fell out of my head about as fast as I could write it.
There are so many different worlds Jac and Finn visit, all operating on different timelines, how do you keep track of all the different worlds in the Hunters universe?
Weirdly; an Excel spreadsheet. It took an age to get the formulas to work properly, but now I
have this incredible tool that takes an amount of time that passed on World A, and does the
math for me on how much time has passed on Every. Other. World. At first it was just days to
days, but I expanded it so it does it all at once in everything from years to hours. It’s a lifesaver.
