I enjoyed this dark tale of Medieval derring-do, for the mystery it did NOT explain. Too many stories give us cut-and-dried situations, with endings too pat to thrill us. Mark Lord seems a rising dark star.
If you enjoy unique and compelling speculative tales set in vivid eras of historical conflict, this collection is for you. I particularly enjoyed the two U.S. Civil War tales: "Riders on the Storm," with its wildly imaginative premise, and "Bummers," which realistically portrays a little-known facet of that war... The other three tales are also dramatic and very well-written, and really made me think. Thanks to editor Mark Lord for this stunning issue, and I hope there will be many more to come.
