Jim Kohn

Biography

During my life as an author, composer and musician I have had poetry and songs published, and composed musical theater and opera, and performed on both coasts. I have been a college teacher, a business and technical writer, a performing musician, an event promoter and conference presenter, and am in love with storytelling. I have a Masters degree in English from the University of Southern California and was a founder and executive director of the Ali Akbar College of Music in Marin County, California.

I now live on 10 mountain acres near Asheville, North Carolina, where I write, compose, perform, and garden, with my artist/musician wife Karen Bell.

Regarding my novel, Sex, Drugs & Raga-Roll, I heard Indian music for the first time fifty years ago and was transformed. By the next year, 1966, I was in Berkeley, beginning a seven-year journey into the arcane and wondrous realms of sound and accepting the overwhelming task of directing a new college of music for one of the greatest musicians of modern times, Ali Akbar Khansahib.
