- The Ugly Kids
on May 04, 2011
If you read her unicorn short story, and then this one, I'm sure you'll see that Renee Adams has a talent for taking a real life condition and giving it a twist with creatures of myth and fairy tales. "Mommy, Where Do Baby Unicorns Come From?" invoked feelings of sadness, especially in this father of the three year old girl. "The Ugly Kids" on the other hand, had me laughing all the way. If you've ever felt like the odd kid out or ugly and awkward in those teen years, this lighthearted story will have you chuckling.

Renee Adams does not disappoint in this sequel to the first Ugly Kids. It's as funny as the first, and just as heartwarming. The main character, Lily, is a very believable one, despite the absurd situation and circumstances she finds herself in.
