Tom Bradley, Jr

Biography

Tom Bradley Jr.’s adventures in writing began in grade school, when he penned—OK, penciled—his first short stories. Later, as an adult, he wrote and trunked myriad bad manuscripts, all scribbled with the futile hope that one of them would blossom into a Great American Novel. Alas, none did. But with the advent of modern self-publishing, Tom can now share his feeble brain droppings with readers around the world, without apology.

He writes mystery and caper novels featuring licensed private investigator Noelani Lee, whose adventures are set on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Because it's Tom's favorite island, that's why.

Tom counts the immortal Elmore Leonard, along with Carl Hiaasen, Tim Dorsey, Ben Rehder, and Christopher Moore, among his favorite authors and literary influencers. Suffice it to say, he’s not among theirs.

A native Pennsylvanian who grew up near the little mining town of Mt. Holly Springs, Tom has had a lengthy career in journalism and public relations that took him from the U.S. Navy to San Diego to Las Vegas and San Antonio. He now resides in suburban Las Vegas with his wife, Donna; a laid-back tortoise-shell calico cat named Chloe; and sixty-plus pounds of rompin’, stompin’ basset hound who answers to Molli.

Smashwords Interview

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Well, I spend way too much time watching TV. The positive side of this otherwise lackadaisical hobby is that much of what I watch has some influence on what and how I write. My wife and I are partial to British crime dramas—think Broadchurch, The Fall, Whitechapel, Midsomer Murders, Sherlock, etc. I also love photography, swimming, travel, and of course, reading.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
As I like to read crime novels, I tend to seek out my favorite authors, and also, expand my search to new writers or writers with whom I am unfamiliar, to see what they have to offer (the Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought feature is an excellent tool to find books). Then again, I sometimes know what I am looking for, especially if it's a novel by a well-known author, and go straight to it.
