Short description

Peter Bremmer decides he'd be better off never speaking again. Then Peter meets a man who says more than he ever could without ever saying a word.

Extended description

Peter Bremmer is shy, lazy, overweight, and self-conscious. He focuses on avoiding minor inconveniences, and tries to carry on conversations where he doesn’t stammer. He’d be better off, he decides, resigning himself from humanity, not trying to fit in at all, and never speaking to anybody ever again.

It’s as Peter steps off the hamster wheel of his life that he meets Bill, the man who does the puppet show in the local outdoor market, a man who, like Peter, does not speak. The two become fast friends of an unusual, unspeaking sort.

It is also around this time that Peter, quite by accident, strikes up an online relationship with a woman, Petunia. He'd like to get to know her better, and knows he’ll lose her if he doesn’t talk to her, but to open his mouth now would mean that he’d also have to explain to her how and why he’s been lying to her with his silence all this time….
