Emily turns fifteen as her family moves to San Francisco. Money is tight, so they move into her uncle's mansion and live by his strict rules. Emily is convinced her life has hit rock bottom, but things get worse when she begins to hear voices coming from the mirrors. Maybe they’re ghosts or something much worse, or maybe she’s just going insane. When she learns the truth, it turns out to be even more amazing than her imagination.

One of those voices belongs to a boy her age, and he talks to her as a friend. Emily feels drawn to him and decides to help him escape.
