"In the Valley" is a gripping adventure with well drawn characters and plenty of well observed detail in the scene setting. The story shows the same event from different points of view and this is neatly accomplished. It contains many intriguing insights into the power and influence of elephants. The other stories set in Africa are charming and demonstrate the Author's great knowledge of the flora and fauna found there. All of the stories in this collection are interesting and I look forward to reading more of this Author's work.

In the Valley was such an interesting book. I've always been fascinated with Africa, and Phil's descriptions leave the reader feel like she is right in the heart of it. Although each story depicted in this book is fairly short, they do not leave you wanting. They are imaginitive and descriptive in a way many authors fail to project. I enjoyed Phil's writing and hope to see more in the future.

These short stories reveal a love of Africa. They show the beauty, but I think they also show the delicate balance between humans and other animals. An enjoyable read.

An interesting collection of six short stories, the first four of which all share an African theme. The first ‘Into the Valley’ is by far the longest and is my favourite. I’ve always felt some animals were more intelligent than we give them credit for. Anyway I won’t spoil it for you. As for ‘Finding the Eland’ (my 2nd favourite) it is taken from a novel, I do hope the novel contains more about the eland and the mantis.
