Another instalment in my favorite vampire series - and I'm not a vampire fan, in case you're wondering. My first and last vampires books were the first 3 Ann Rice's books in the late 1990s and I was so NOT impressed that I quit after Queen of the Damned and thought I'd never read another vampire book after those 3. Then comes the new millennium, blogging and Joleene Naylor. Now I'll have to wait for book 5, gah!
Anyway, I still love her humor, her perfect balance of adult themes and gore, and her crazy characters who often take over her blog, so you better follow that as well. Sometimes I feel sorry for Katelina and Jorick - will they ever be free? ;) And what is really going on in Verchiel's head? Only the author will tell...

"Ashes of Deceit" -- an enjoyable to read vampire novel that is expertly written in an easy to read and follow style, and more importantly, a story that keeps your interest in what will happen next.
From the details and description of the taste of vampire blood -- to the gulping and the slurping of human blood by a vampire -- to the vampires dying love, deception, disconnection, disgust, and disturbance, -- to the fear and jealousy by Jorick that another vampire will mark Katelina as his property -- to the titillating love affair between the two main Characters "Jorick and Katelina" -- their passionate love for each other have no boundaries and he will do anything to protect her - as she will to protect him -- I enjoyed reading all.
Last, this book allowed my desires to surface from the depths within -- desires wanting to be marked and made into a Vampire's property -- thus, I am looking forward to reading this Author's next book -- so to refuel my imaginary love affair triangle with Jorick.

Joleene Naylor designs the covers of my own books (also here on Smashwords) which is how I was introduced to her writing...it took me a while, snooty man that I am, to lower myself to reading "vampire lit". What a surprise! I read the last two of these in "beta" and they are really good! I think she is improving too, but both this one and its predecessor manage to do the business for what a vampire novel for adults should be like according to the "genre rules", but go past that too. If you are a vampire novel fan, you'll like them; if you're not, keep an open mind and give them a go.

I started reading these on iTunes and really got hooked. The story is different and I love the paranormal aspect. The books are well written and grab hold of you, making you want to know what is going to happen next with all of the characters. It was available here a week before and I purchased here in order to have it quicker. I cannot wait for the next book this winter 2012-2013!!!
