Barbara's vivid and dramatic stories, told with a wicked sense of humor, will make you laugh out loud. She definitely gets what living with rescued dogs (nine of them!) is all about. This book will inspire you with the couple's unstinting love, devotion, and respect for dogs as family members. You'll be glad to include it in your treasured collection of great dog books.

Extended description

When Barbara meets her future husband, Ray, it is love-and dog-at first sight. Over the course of thirty-two years, seventeen relocations and nine dogs, their mutual love of dogs guides them on their unconventional path. The love that Barbara and Ray get in return is literally lifesaving, with one dog attacking a lethal intruder and another discovering Barbara’s cancer. Her own survival story underscores the story of how her dogs become survivors themselves.
Each new dog adds its own dynamic to the family, sometimes upending it. From Turbo (whose Spock-like ears may have provided super powers), Barbara learns about the will to live; Lexington demonstrates incredible patience and an inexplicable love of golf; Madison teaches that laughter is truly the best medicine and that the whole “nine lives thing” is not reserved just for cats; Morgan should be sainted for tolerating Izzy, who is as cute as she is bad. I loved the book. Laying on the bed with Kingers I read the entire book in one reading. I could not put it down. Each story she told I could close my eyes and see either Kingers or Bo! While reading the book it took me back to some very very happy times with Bo and some very very sad times. I was talking to Kingers - reminding him when he ate the linoleum off the basement steps and when he ran through the fields in the rain chasing rocks.
I met the Germans and loved to read about their fun adventures. I felt the tears run down my face with Izzy's struggles and I smiled with her triumphs.
I highly recommend this book for any DOG LOVER! You will be able to relate...you will feel her happiness and her pain. Excellent READ!

Barbara tells the stories of the dogs she and her husband have loved and shared their lives with in an entertaining, can't-put-it-down book you'll be happy to own.

Any pet lover can relate to the heartwarming, outrageously funny, and sometimes sad happenings of a house full of dogs. These dogs are truly family members in this home, and the personality of each and every one comes to life from the pages.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel like you know and love these dogs yourself - the sign of a great book!
