Highlights of her outdoor adventures include Girl Scouting, which provided yearly training in camp skills, the opportunity to engage in a 10-day canoe trip, and numerous short backpacking excursions. She was selected to attend the 1965 Senior Scout Roundup in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, an international event to which 10,000 girls were invited. She has ridden a bicycle from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean in 1986, and on August 3, 2010 became the first woman to complete the North Country National Scenic Trail on foot. We used these devotionals for a series of hikes our small group at church took together - at the turn around point, we stopped for a moment, shared the story, said a prayer, and departed...it's a wonderful resource with great words of meaning!

I really enjoyed this small devotional for hikers. Joan has hiked thousands of miles. I have hiked a few over the years. Joan did a great job matching biblical readings with the needs and expectations of hikers.

I have added this book to my daily reading list. The best way to use it is to read a chapter a day and then spend a few quiet moments letting God and nature talk to you. I read it in the comfort of my home. But, I think it would be even more powerful in the quiet dawn before a long day's trek.

We are all so busy these days, take a moment to relax and meditate on things bigger than you.

Although the title of this book is directed at Hikers, it is definitely a book that everyone will enjoy. I loved the easy read style and the great way in which the author wrote the devotionals to also mesh well for almost anyone, anywhere. No matter who reads this e-book you are certain to find a passage or several that resonate with you and leave you feeling that you have just enjoyed a few moments with a dear friend. A definite must buy if you are the target demographic and even if you aren't. Loved it!
