A highly engaging short story. A Watchmaker and his wife find themselves in a difficult situation. Mr. Pike is an unsympathetic banker about to call their loan. An unusual accord is struck with deadly consequences and a cunning twist in the tale. A quick but highly engaging read.

As an ex Banker I loved this short story. It is a bit predictable but I wanted to know what happened. Great plot, interesting details and vivid descriptions places you at the scene. I love short stories and this was well worth the read. Loved the banker character!

A riveting story, albeit a bit predictable. No matter - I was caught to the end. Armstrong tells a good story that more than makes up for its shortcomings with an allure that just won't let go.
