Once I picked it up, I could not put it down! I read it in a few hours, then immediately purchased the next book - "Mischief in Mudbug." It's an easy read, and the author's sense of humor shows through her writing.

A great, fun read! I was looking for something to cleanse my palate after a depressing book-club selection. This was perfect! Loved the characters, alive and dead. Several laugh-out-loud moments, an intriguing and fast-paced mystery. What's not to like?

You may not live in Mudbug, but I'll bet you've known people much like the denizens of that town — alive and dead. All in all a delightful visit with a disparate cast of characters. I will surely visit with them again.

Enjoyed the story. It was a quick fun read. Only one thing bothered me...how do you pronounce Maryse? The main character, the heroine of the book, yet I had not a clue how to pronounce her name. Slowed down my reading of the book.... Still enjoyed it though!

I've enjoyed Louisiana music and culture since the time I spent in the region back in the 70's, so I had to check this book out.
Maryse is no wimpy heroine. She's smart, tough, gutsy, AND she likes her beer! What's not to like?
Definitely getting the next two!

Have only read the first 30 pages so far but it looks like a fun read. It will be interesting to see how it all resolves... probably with a lot of noise!!

Who would have thought a place called Mudbug could be so intriguing. Ghosts, murder, greed. And romance. Even the ghost of Helene comes off as a bit likeable despite having been a royas B---- alive. A good read. Whets the appetite for Ms. Deleon's subsequent Mudbug books.

Well-written fascinating book. There were only a small handful of spelling/grammar errors, but none so serious that I would count them as a negative in rating this book.
The story is ecellent, the characterizations wonderful. I gambled on this book because I generally do not like books with ghosts or vampires (this book has the former but not the latter), but this ebook was so good, I'm buying the two sequels.

The whole Mudbug series by Ms DeLeon is a fun treat! You have mystery, romance, a bothersome ghost and a town of really offbeat characters. Settle in for some enjoyable reading from a gifted author. I recommend all of the books that Jana DeLeon has written.

I was a bit leery about reading a book with a ghost in it. I'm all paranormal/other-worldly-romanced out. If it wasn't for the fact that I needed to read a book with a scientist character for a Reading Challenge, I probably would have left this book on the backburner. Instead, it was available for free with a code at Smashwords at the right time, and I took it. I seriously did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It was funny and light-hearted.
Just when Maryse thinks her life is looking up with the death of her horrible mother-in-law, she learns to her horror that she is the only one who can see the ghost of her mother-in-law. Her life goes from quiet and miserable to exciting and dangerous.
I really liked the character of her mother-in-law. She just made the entire book a lot of fun. It was also amusing to see ladies' man Luc feeling chagrined at how Maryse outwardly appears oblivious to his charms. I didn't really like how their relationship started off based on Luc's lies (due to him being undercover), but I liked how it ended. As for Maryse, she learns that things and people are not always what they appear to be - even her horrible mother-in-law.
This wasn't a great book by any means but it was a fun one from a new-to-me author. I've purchased Book#2 of Ghost-in-Law, and look forward to reading it.

Normally novels that include plucky female characters, multiple POV's, romance, and ghosts make me roll my eyes and move on. But this one was tightly plotted with quite believable characters populating it and moved through an intriguing setting – so I enjoyed it in spite of myself.

Maryse goes to her mother-in-law funeral even though she had lots of problems dealing with her and in the middle of funeral sees her crawling out of the casket. Maryse talks more with helena now that she is dead than a live and together they try and find out who is trying to kill maryse and who suceeded to kill Helena. their is lots of action, attempted murder a few times. talking to a ghost that only she can see causes some fun embarrsing moments. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more of the series

I'll be blunt here. This was a free book, and I didn't expect anything much. So I was very pleasantly surprised at how well it was written, and at the interesting storyline. I will be buying the other two books in the series.

Very well crafted story with interesting story line twists. A woman dies, and haunts her daughter-in-law as a ghost while finally teaming up together to solve her murder, which wasn't even known to be a murder to begin with. Together along with a few more 'characters' the unintended detective team save the day so to speak. Lots of fun and very enjoyable.
